My name is Shelly Fane and I will be your child's teacher this year in 4th grade. This will be my 5th year working at Peirce. I graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in Spanish literature, and I have a Masters in bilingual education from Dominican University.
As a teacher of bilingual students, I believe that education should cultivate and celebrate students' native language as well as English. The instructional strategies I use to teach my English learners are also best practices for all students. The foundation of my educational philosophy is built on respect: both for self and for others. In my classroom, everyone is a member of a special community wherein students learn through play, exploration, and collaboration. I believe all students can learn and grow with the proper supports and positive mindset.
The family and the school should be a partnership. It's important that parents know that their child's education begins at home. Please contact me with questions, concerns, or comments. I am here and I work so that your child can have the best education possible.
