Welcome back to Peirce! I'm so excited to start a brand new school year and meet all of my new students and their families. Here's a few things to keep in mind:
First Day of School:
September 6th, 2016 from 8-3. I will meet my class outside of door 7 at 7:55. After the first day, students will walk in on their own and meet me at our classroom.
September 15th, from 5-7p.m. Families and students are encouraged to come to learn more about our program in 4th grade, as well as routines and classroom expectations. I'll leave plenty of time for questions and getting to know one another!
The majority of classroom updates are shared on the free app, Class Dojo. Students will receive a unique code for registering your child on the first day. On the app, you can see your child's work and behavior, as well as contact me directly.
There will be more updates to come!
From now on, photos and updates regarding what we're doing in the classroom can be found on Class Dojo. If you have not already signed up to receive updates on Class Dojo, please contact Ms. Fane to receive your unique access code.
We have been doing some great learning the past few weeks in 208! Several students have taken ownership of their knowledge and presented to the class. So far, we have learned about the Eiffel Tower, and purses made in Mexico!
We also earned our first panther paw party! Students had a goal of 10 paws earned for positive behavior in school. We reached our goal last week and celebrated by having an extra recess period on Friday afternoon! Our next goal is 15 paws, and I am awarding paws specifically for listening with attention. Go Panthers!
We also celebrated International Day of Peace on Monday. Check out these photos from the day!
One of the topics we discussed during this first week is growth mindset. This year we'll be frequently talking about having a growth mindset, or positive attitude where students believe they can change their brain and make it smarter and stronger. We set goals in areas we'd like to improve, how we plan to train our brains, and took time illustrating what a growth mindset would look like achieving that goal.
Please bring permission slips regarding tadpoles by Thursday morning. We will be having the raffle for the two tadpoles Thursday afternoon.
Students should bring back any classroom library books as soon as possible. Please check at home and in backpacks!
On Wednesday we will be having a book swap. If you want to participate, please bring a gently used book (no ripped pages or markings) of your own to school on Wednesday. You will be able to trade your old book for a new one in the third grade swap.
Chicago Public Library is having a Summer Reading Program. See the website for details, or visit your local library in Edgewater. If students complete the summer reading challenge, please bring in evidence of your participation on the first day of 4th grade. Students who participate in the program will also win a prize from me!
Have a great summer, and check back for summer updates!
